Justin had meetings on Tuesday, and then we had the afternoon free and flew out of Austin at about 6:00 that night. We were originally supposed to come home on Wednesday, but due to Justin's schedule, we changed plans to fly home on Tuesday night. This ended up being a good choice (well, sort of ... being delayed is not fun), given that my grandma had passed away, and we wanted to get home.
I went for another run on Tuesday morning while Justin was at his meetings. Our hotel was in such a beautiful area!
Since we had to leave for the airport at about 4:00, we were unable to do the winery tour that we had originally planned to do. So, instead, we sat at the pool for a couple of hours. I'll never complain about relaxing in the sun!
Our flight from Austin to Minneapolis went as planned ... the sunset was really pretty from the plane!
As we left Austin, we found out that our flight from Minneapolis to SF had been delayed. We were supposed to leave at about 10:00 PM and arrive home at 11:00 PM. By the time we landed in Minneapolis, we were delayed until 2:15 AM. We struggled with what to do ... Justin HAD to be on the road to Huron by 6 AM that morning. There were no other flights out ... we considered renting a car and driving the the four and a half hours home. The plane we needed was in San Antonio, and we knew it would take off from there at 10:30 ... so we gave it until 10:30 to see if that plane actually left. If it didn't, we were driving home. We tracked the plane on my phone ... and it left a few minutes late, but we decided to stick it out and take the 2:15 flight.
This flight. Ugh. We have taken it 4 times from Minneapolis to SF, and it has been delayed 3 out of the 4 times. I think we'll avoid it from now on!
I can say that Delta tried to be accommodating .... they brought blankets and pillows out for everyone ... set out counters full of snacks and drinks ...
... and "threw" us a pizza party at 11:45. Ha!
Our plane got back to SF just after 3 AM, and we made it home at about 3:30 ... just in time for a couple hours of sleep before Justin left for Huron, and I had to get the kids up for school. I stayed home that morning ... and then worked for about 3 hours (basically just enough time to get things ready for a sub for the next two days).
I am so glad we had the chance to visit Austin! Definitely a fun place to go! Thank you to our parents for helping with our kids (twice within a month ... first Mexico, then Texas).
