Three Kids

Three Kids

Wednesday, May 28, 2014

As I mentioned in a previous post, we had our niece and nephews all at our house two weekends ago! The kids had so much fun playing in our backyard. It was easy to keep track of all six kids since our yard is fenced in and is full of toys! :)

This toy is leaving our backyard soon though ... our kids love it, but they are too big for it! Ryleigh and Logan had fun with it though!

Jordyn played with Calvin on the trampoline ... (I promise she never jumped when he was in there.)

Hugs for Grandma!

We also had our tent set up, so Kiki and Jordyn were hiding in there ...

Ryleigh wanted Logan to sit on her lap. :)

Jayla played in the tent too ...

We sure had lots of fun with all of the kids! :)

Weekly Update & Photo Dump!

Another week has flown by! If every week during the summer goes this fast, I will be back in school before we know it!

As I mentioned in the previous post, last Thursday was our last day of school. The last two weeks were so busy! We had things every night. Jordyn is playing softball and has games every Tuesday and Thursday.

We didn't exactly have the warmest start to the season ...

I am planning to take my nice camera to several of the games, but I spend most of my time chasing Jayla and Jax that I haven't had a chance to take some good pictures.

Jordyn is liking softball so much more than soccer!

The night of Jordyn's second soccer game (last Thursday) was so cold. The windchill was in the 20's, so I stayed home with these little cuties ...

I was bummed that I had to miss Jordyn's game, but it was just too cold to have Jayla and Jax sit out there for an hour. So -- we played play-doh, colored, and watched TV while they were gone.

Justin and Jordyn all bundled up to go to softball ...

Once Justin and Jordyn got home that night, I met some of my co-workers downtown for a late supper. There were six of us - such a fun time!

On Friday we headed to Brody's graduation open house. (Brody is Justin's cousin.) They live about an hour away. The kids were really well behaved on the way there ... but then they weren't the best listeners while we were there. Justin and I both felt a bit of frustration that night!

On Saturday we planted flowers and the kids did a lot of this ...

On Saturday evening, we went to my cousin Brenden's open house ...

My parents, Kayla, Kandi, Calvin, Logan and Ryleigh were all there too! (Kayla was baby-sitting L and R for the weekend.) After the open house, they all came to our house. It was so much fun to have all 6 kids running around our back yard! I took pictures, but I just realized I haven't uploaded those yet. I will have to do that later. :)

Jax was exhausted after a busy Saturday!

On Sunday we went to church, took naps, and then went to the zoo! I didn't take too many pictures that day, but we had a good time at the zoo!

Our tour guide ...

The kids went to daycare this entire week. I wanted the week to get caught up on housework, errands and just regrouping from the end of the school year and transition into the summer. I spent the week doing a lot of cleaning! We have a very large storage area (500 square feet -- it's our fourth level of our house and it's not finished). That storage area is a blessing -- but also a curse. There was so much crap down there. I didn't take before/after pictures because it was too embarrassing. I threw away so much stuff .. took a load to Goodwill ... and have a huge load for rummage. It's so nice to have extra shelf space again and to see the floor! It will also be nice to have more than just a small path to get to the treadmill! Maybe my time running on the treadmill will be more enjoyable now that the basement is clean? Ha ... probably not! :)

I found this picture while cleaning ... what a trip down memory lane! This was after Justin's shoulder surgery in college. Not a fun memory for any of us!

On Wednesday night I went out for dinner with some friends. I am blessed with a great group of girlfriends! It was such a fun night!

Jordyn had softball again on Tuesday night ...

Jordyn's team only has 7 girls on it, and after talking with the coach and the person in charge of the league, they decided to let Jayla join the team too! She missed the age cut off by 4 months, but they said she can play now. So - she played in her first game on Thursday and did well! Her last hit was amazing! I don't have pictures from that game though. Justin was gone that night and my parents came to help out with Jax at softball, but I was still running between the girls and Jax. After the game, the kids got to play at the park with Grandpa and Grandma. They thought it was pretty funny that Grandpa Buzz went down the twisty slide! :)

Justin and I also spent the day on Thursday helping his parents move. They sold their lake condo and bought a house. We were glad that we could help them out!

Tonight we did some housework/yard work ... Jax wanted to watch Daddy mow!

Then we lit the fire pit and had smores ... :)

Our weekend will be just as busy ... lake time, and on Saturday evening I will get to see my best friend from elementary school. We haven't seen her since our wedding! I can't wait!

Happy Memorial Day Weekend! :)

Summer Break!

I cannot believe that we are on summer break already! Last Thursday was the last day of school for the students. The teachers worked one more day on Friday.

I was blessed with another amazing group of kids! Let me preface this by saying that each year that I have taught I have worked with awesome groups of kids, and I have loved each of them (even if there were times that were challenging). However, there was something very special about this group of 22 kids. They were so well behaved, respectful, responsible, and their goal was always to be a role model to someone else. They never fought and they were always encouraging to one another. Almost every day there were students cheering on someone else while they worked, or clapping and giving standing ovations for someone who did something well!

They begged me to move to 4th grade with them. :) They hugged me and hugged me and hugged me before they walked out the door one last time as a 3rd grader ... and then many of them made multiple trips back in the classroom to hug again. Their parents sent me the kindest, most encouraging notes, gave me gifts ... they also gave me the most sincere hugs.

For a year that was challenging from the teaching standpoint and the new changes our district took on, having a group of students like this was exactly what I needed. I laughed so hard each day and had great conversations, yet the students know their exact expectations and boundaries.

Our last day of school is always an activity day that is completely planned out by the parents.(The parents are amazing!) The weather was a bit icky this year, but we still had a lot of fun! The theme this year was Candy Land ... and many of us dressed up for it. :)

Micah and Pam teach 3rd grade with me. :)

The kids had a blast with all of the activities, but the highlight of the day may have been the teacher obstacle course! Usually we do a water balloon toss, but due to the wind chill being in the 20's (who worries about the 'windchill' in May??!! Ha!) the water balloon toss was eliminated and we did an indoor obstacle course in the gym. Hilarious and the students (and parents) loved it! :) The 1st, 3rd, and 5th grade teachers won! :) Woohoo!!

So ... here's to the start of summer ... (that began with winter-like weather)!

Shopping or Family Fun Night?

The other night we ran to Scheels to get some head bands for the girls. Our Scheels recently did a huge remodel and put in a ferris wheel, a kid's play area ... and our trip to pick up head bands lasted over an hour. Ha!

Jayla like this mannequin ...

Justin and Jordyn rode on the Ferris Wheel. We ran into a friend of ours who works there and he gave us free tokens to ride the Ferris Wheel. We couldn't get Jax and Jayla go on it, so the three of us just went upstairs and watched. :)

The kids thought this bear was funny ...
