Children's Museum

On Saturday we decided to take the kids to the children's museum. It's about an hour from our house, and we hadn't been there since Jaxon was a baby. The kids were pretty excited when we told them we were going!

The first thing the kids did was paint with their feet. Jaxon liked it at first, but since it was slippery he slipped a bit and then he didn't really want to do anymore painting. :)

Then it was time to go grocery shopping! This has always been a favorite!

The kids did some farm work ...

They also built a wall with bricks, played with the hula-hoops and ran around. Then we realized another family that we knew was there! It is a family who goes to the school that I teach at, but they also use the before/after school program at our preschool, so our kids know them, and I have gotten to know the family well. They have 4 kids - Hannah, Hailey, Hattie and Hudson. Hannah was in my class last year. Our kids just adore these kids ... and it was like we had our own personal baby-sitters at the museum! They had so much fun together!

They did a lot of cooking together!

Jaxon and Hailey making sand designs ...

We had lunch at the museum and then headed home! Jaxon was so sweet ... he had to go hug each of the kids before we left, and he kept saying, "Hug Hannah. Hug Hailey. Hug Hattie. Hug Hudson."

It was so much fun to watch our kids play!

Jaxon ... ears, xrays, lab work ...

Poor Jaxon. I feel like we are kind of back to square one with what we dealt with for the first five months of 2013. Actually, it isn't quite as serious as that, but he's been battling some junk for over a month.

He had the stomach flu before Christmas and then a fever that lasted for 8 days. After that he started complaining about his tummy hurting and in his words his "pee pee" hurting. Sorry - TMI! We kind of let that go and about a week after the complaining started, his ear started draining, so we paid more attention to the ear than the tummy. After 8 days on ear drops, it wasn't any better so we ran him to acute care last weekend to get an antibiotic started. That has made a huge difference! Thank goodness! He has one more day of antibiotics, and the pediatrician said his ears look great!

Reading at the doctor ...

Justin was out of town last Sunday through Tuesday morning. The kids were pretty wild while he was gone and bedtime was not easy. I ended up with all three kids and the dog sleeping with me, both nights. On Sunday night I noticed Jaxon was cold and took his temp around 10:30 and it was 96 degrees. I wanted to throw up. We have been able to keep his body temperature maintained and now it had dropped again. I bundled him in blankets and set my alarm to wake up about every 30 minutes to check his temp. I took his temp many times throughout the night but the problem was that I was so tired and my dreams were about Jaxon's temperature dropping that when I woke up for the day at 5:15, I didn't know what was reality versus my dreams. I remember seeing 94 degrees and 95 degrees on the thermometer. I am pretty sure the 94 was in my dreams, but I honestly don't know about the 95. I was so mad at myself when I got up at 5:15 ... not knowing what his body temp really was through the night was scary. Both 95 and 94 could have been very serious. When I got him up for the day, he was back to his normal 97.7. Thank goodness!

How sad is this??!! This a true sign our sweet boy wasn't feeling well!

After listening to him complain about his tummy and peepee for many days (actually about three weeks), we decided to head to the doctor. I knew exactly what they would need to do - xrays of the tummy and a urine test. Nightmare. The good news about those two tests were that he's old enough to use the xray table. We have officially graduated from the horrible xray machine they use on babies. The urine test was done with a catheter, which he experienced when he was hospitalized in August. I knew it would be awful to go through that again.

A little silliness at the doctor ...

The xrays came back showing he has stools backed up all over, which is also something Jordyn has been through. It should be an easy fix with miralax. He had one lab result from the urine that came back a bit off. The doctor does not feel we need to be concerned -- it could have been from something he ate or the antibiotic could have thrown it off. We are going to re-do the test in about two weeks ... and re-do it without the catheter. I have watched the nurses use a bag before, after a little begging, they said I could use the bag or a cup. Woohoo! It should be pretty painless for all involved that way. :)

So ... while things aren't near as serious as they were a year ago, we are still praying that Jaxon is back to feeling 100% soon!

Birthday party!

Jordyn had two birthday parties at CEC two Saturday mornings in a row. I know I have said it before, but her group of friends from preschool get along so well and we so are blessed to know those families. Most of the kids have been together since they were infants! Justin took Jordyn to the first party, and I took her to the second party. The pictures on this post are from the second party.

Air hockey with Maddy ...

She was awesome at basketball!

Jordyn and Maddy decided to work as a team at basketball - they figured out they would earn way more tickets!

The birthday party was for Emma ... and Emma's mom name is Jordyn. Two of Jordyn's best friends happen to be our two favorite daycare workers and baby-sitters!

Miss Talor had moved to ND, but recently moved back!!

Miss Jordan lives just up the street from us, and we love having her as our baby-sitter!

(So ... three Jordyn's ... our Jordyn, baby-sitter Jordan and Emma's mom Jordyn ... and Talor told us her mom almost named her Jordan when she was born. For a name that is not commonly used as a girl's name ... there are sure a lot around us!)

Dentist Appointments!

Jordyn and Jayla had dentist appointments a couple of weeks ago. Jordyn loves going to the dentist -- Jayla ... not so much.

The girls wanted a picture with "Jordyn the Bear" before getting ready to go to the dentist. They won this huge bear two years ago after being cavity free at their appointments.

I was a bit nervous taking all three kids to the dentist. Jaxon didn't have an appointment, but I was worried that he would be his normal crazy self, and I would struggle to keep him under control, stay by the girls and talk to the hygienist and dentist. I was totally wrong! All three kids did amazing and were such good listeners (well .. until it was time to leave ... they were just the opposite)

Jordyn went first ...

Then it was Jayla's turn. Even though she doesn't like going to the dentist, she did awesome! They were even able to take some x-rays of her teeth for the first time!

The girls were chosen "kids of the day" and their picture made it onto the facebook page. We love the dentist that we go to!

I was so proud of the girls! :)

Leaving though was a nightmare. The windchill outside was -50 (school was cancelled that day) so I needed the kids very bundled up. I finally had the girls all bundled up and ready to go the van, and then Jayla decided she needed the bathroom. So ... I hauled all three into the bathroom. Took everything off of her, and re-bundled her up. Then we headed back to the waiting room to get Jax bundled up. He was not having it ... didn't want a coat, hat or gloves on. A former student of mine was there with his mom and bless her heart she offered several times to help. I finally got his coat and hat on him and gave up on the gloves. I ran him to the van first and left the girls in the entry way. Jax did not want to get in his car seat either ... which is never a fun battle, but add in the horrible wind chills and it was a nightmare. I finally got him strapped him, got the girls in the van and headed home. By that point we were all sweating from being bundled up and the van very warm that we drove most of the way home with some of the windows open. Ha!

I am pretty sure the four people in the waiting room, as well as the receptionists, cheered as soon as we were out the door. :) Such is life with a 2 year old, 3 year old and 5 year old. :)

The last two weeks ...

It has been another busy two weeks! Everything from cancelled school due to wind chills that were -50 degrees, dentist appointments, several doctor appointments, normal work routine, a blizzard, two field trips and one guest speaker with my students (all in three days), kids who don't sleep, two birthday parties at CEC for two of Jordyn's preschool friends, a 32nd birthday party for our good friend Jade, an ear infection for Jax that has lasted 12 days ... going on 13 tomorrow, a funeral for a friend of mine who passed away from cancer, Justin out of town twice in a week, trying to keep up on my workouts and meet a new running goal in the month of January ... and the list could go on! Needless to say, I'm exhausted and feeling behind on everything. We enjoyed a fun evening out last night with some of our best friends -- a night out that was so needed, but of course we had to worry about Jax who was at home with Justin's parents fighting a fever. We knew it was from his ear infection and we knew he was in great care, but of course we still worried. So ... until I have pictures organized and things under control here, I'll just leave you with a few pictures of the kids ...

*Singing Old MacDonald!

*Ready for one of the two birthday parties that she went to in the last week ...
