Arizona Vacation!

Justin and I just got home from a wonderful and relaxing vacation in Tucson, Arizona!

Justin earned this trip through work, and I am so very proud of him! The trip was fabulous!

The resort that we stayed at was built into the side of a mountain - Loews Ventana Canyon. The resort was beautiful!

We learned a lot about the Saguaro Cactus, and I took a lot of interest in this since I had recently taught my 3rd graders about them! I made sure to take a lot of pictures to share with my students!

The Saguaro Cactus does not grow "arms" until it is 50-75 years old! The cactus grows about an inch a year ... Check out this one!

It is estimated to be about 300+ years old!

Justin and I spent most of our time relaxing at the pool - about 5 hours every day. There were different excursions that we could have done or we could have golfed, but we both knew that we wanted this vacation to be relaxing!

This was the view from our room ...

We walked on a few paved trails and attempted to hike on a different trail but I freaked out after about 10 steps, because I was just sure we would see a rattlesnake since it is rattlesnake season right now. I literally ran back off the trail. We did go for a couple of runs - we used the golf cart paths to do that. :)

The resort had some paved paths that led to a waterfall.

The resort from the top of the trails ...

We did do one excursion. We went to the Bio Sphere2. Justin enjoyed it more than I did, but it is interesting to learn about the Missions that they did with having 8 people live in there for 2 years, and then the second Mission that was sabotaged from a scientist from the first Mission.

There was a group of about 100 of us that all stayed at Loews with the insurance company. There were 5 couples from the company that Justin works for. Everyone was from the Midwest, and it was fun to meet the others that were there!

We had a breakfast buffet every morning, lunch on our own, and a dinner reception every night. We ate way. too. much. food. The meals were absolutely delicious - everything from fajitas to steak to lobster to shrimp. I'm pretty sure I would be fine to go without eating for the next few days!

The front of the resort and golf area had a beautiful pond surrounded by flowers.

Our trip was so fun! Now it's back to reality - we are both working tomorrow, and then hopefully we can regroup this weekend! :)

Our kids were completely spoiled by their grandparents while we were gone! We are blessed to have them nearby to help out. They stayed at our house and took the kids to daycare during the day to keep them in a normal routine.

Their smiles and hugs were priceless when we got home today!

Our Week!

Another week has flown by!

The weather has been so incredibly nice here. We have spent quite a bit of time outside. All three of our kiddos love it! Tomorrow is suppose to be nice again, so we have a few things planned for the kids outside.

Poor Jaxon - his ears are a mess. They are draining so bad. He has had tubes for 2 weeks, and they have been draining since they put the tubes in. His infection started back in the middle of January, and he has not had any break from it. Thankfully, he continues to be a very happy baby and a great sleeper. We just wish the infection would go away. He took an antibiotic for ten days after getting the tubes. It did nothing. He's been on ear drops since the tubes were put it. A few days ago we switched to a different kind of ear drops with a steroid in it. We have not seen a difference yet. We clean and suction his ears at least twice a day. It's gross. Jaxon's next appointment is next Friday. We're hoping his ears start looking better soon!

A few random things from the week ...

Jordyn had news to share with me yesterday! "Mommy, my tummy is growing bigger because there is a baby growing inside of it." I didn't know if I should laugh or cry.

Jordyn is totally in love with Full House right now. Like mother, like daughter! She thinks that Kimmy Gabaler (Gibbler) is the funniest person ever!

Our girls are still wishing there was a little snow to play in. Nothing like dressing up in snow pants and boots on a 70-degree day!

Yesterday I asked Jayla why she dumped her cereal out ... her response in a shouting tone, "Because." Enough said. She's not even two!

Jayla thinks it is so funny to hide from Daddy when he comes home from work. Tonight we were shopping and I had Jayla and Jaxon with me and Justin had Jordyn. Jayla kept asking, "Where's my daddy? Where's Jordyn?" Finally I told her they were going to come find us, and she responded with, "I hide!" Jayla hid on the floor by a jewelry rack in the middle of the store so that she could scare her daddy!

We took a trip to Kohls tonight to get a few things ... and nearly two hours later and probably a lot of annoyed customers and workers, the Overman family finally left the store. I think I had highly elevated blood pressure by the time we were done shopping - only to come home to watch the Tar Heels nearly lose! I'm not sure what was worse - shopping with our three kids or watching UNC play basketball tonight!

Justin, Jordyn, Jayla, and I all have basketball brackets for March Madness through Justin's work. After the first two rounds, Jordyn was in the lead. Wouldn't you know it - the 3 year old would be leading all of the adults!

The girls are great at yelling "Go Tar Heels!" They also yell "Boo Duke!"

It's 11:45 - I should be in bed, but I want to finish watching the last basketball game of the night. Love March Madness!

I really wish I could stay updated on this blog! :) I think the one word that sums up our entire life right now is chaos ... or maybe there's another one too ... difficult. No one said this parenting gig would be easy, but let me tell you, I am more worn out, exhausted, and stressed than I have ever been. I feel like each day zooms by - I blink, and it's over. I often feel like I don't have time during the day to stop and take a deep breath.

Our kids do not slow down or sit down (unless strapped into a car seat). Our mornings are always crazy. I get up shortly after 5:30 to get ready. We get the kids up at 6:00 to get ready for daycare. That usually involves 1 or 2 screaming fits from 1, 2 or 3 children about breakfast or what they are going to wear or why we can't wear the same clothes 3 days in a row (Jordyn can't figure that one out.), or why we can't eat fruit snacks for breakfast everyday, or why we are watching Yo Gabba Gabba instead of Barney. And the list goes on. After getting all three fed, Jayla's and Jaxon's diapers changed, all three dressed, hair done for the girls, lunches packed for Jordyn and myself, backpacks ready for the girls, diaper bag, bottles and medicine ready for Jaxon, blankets ready to go to daycare, and coats on, it is now 6:40, and I think I am going to pull my hair out. And then I remind myself that it isn't even 7 AM! I drop Jayla and Jaxon off at daycare first, then we head over to Jordyn's school. Driving time and two drop-offs takes 27 minutes. (10 minutes for driving and 17 minutes for drop-off) By the time I'm done with drop-offs, I usually figure out that I have either forgotten Jaxon's medicine at home or Jordyn's blankets or extra clothes for Jayla. Justin is to the point of answering his phone in the morning with, "What did you forget today?" Ha!
Although working outside of the house creates a lot of extra work, I am so incredibly thankful for my job. I have an awesome group of students, great teachers to work with, one of the best schedules I could ask for ... all of those things keep me sane. Because right now, life with a 3 1/2 year old, 23 month old, and 6 month is total chaos, and I do appreciate the break. I often laugh about how I use to dread Monday mornings - now, I am so excited for most Monday mornings to arrive, because I know by 7:10, I will be in my classroom with quiet time! I never thought I would come to love Monday mornings!

After school, I usually try to run errands or get a quick workout in. I have about 1 hour (including driving time) to either get groceries, go for a quick run, lift weights, or get gas in the van. By 4:30 I head over to get Jordyn from daycare, then we go pick up Jayla and Jaxon. I usually find that Jaxon has gone through 1-2 outfits due to major spit-ups and blowouts. Poor thing. His antibiotic for his ears really upset his tummy. He's finally done with that, so hopefully we're done with blowouts everyday - now if we could get the reflux under control.

After getting Jaxon in his carrier, we grab Jayla, which usually results in her throwing herself on the floor because she doesn't want to wear a coat or because she wants Mommy to carry her. Picture me carrying Jaxon in his carrier (30 pounds worth of baby and carrier) in one arm and 32-pound Jayla in the other arm and attempting to have Jordyn hold my hand while we go to the van. (Thank goodness that Jordyn carries Jaxon's bag and Jayla's bag.) I get Jaxon's carrier put on his base, Jordyn strapped in her car seat, and then battle with Jayla to get her into her car seat. By now, it's 5:00, and I am about out of patience. It's a good thing we have a 10 minute ride home. It's usually 10 minutes of Jayla screaming, but all three kids are strapped in their car seats and they aren't going anywhere!

We get home around 5:10ish, and I attempt to make supper, which doesn't go so well, because Jayla continues to scream. I am praying that this ends soon. She literally screams for 2-3 hours every evening. I wish I knew what to do to make her happy.

Justin gets home around 5:30, supper finally gets made, 1,2 or 3 children cry during supper, then it's clean up time, we play for a little while, take baths, and then battle bedtime. Jaxon is a fabulous sleeper (sleeps from 7:30-6:00) and the girls are doing better through the night, but getting them to sleep is another story.

Nothing seems easy these days, and I often feel like with all of the tantrums and fits the girls are throwing, we are doing something wrong. We get such great reports on all three kids from daycare ... great listeners, great helpers, sweet kids ... I just wish we would see more of that home some days.

So until then ... our life will continue to be total chaos ... and we will continue to go with it!

Jayla ~ 23 Months

We are just one month away from Jayla being 2 years old! She does not enjoy having her picture taken, so three of the four pictures below have been on other posts since she wouldn't cooperate to take new pictures. :)

What is new with Jayla?

Jayla ...

... weighs about 32 pounds, wears mostly 2T clothes, size 7 shoe, and size 5 diapers.

... loves to read books, build with blocks, play with her baby, color, and play with Jordyn.

... loves to steal Jaxon's paci - or if he drops it, she is the first to run over, pick it up, and put it back in his mouth!

... talks non-stop! She does great with 3-5 word phrases. She also loves to repeat everything we say! The other day Jordyn did something, and I said, "Aww Jordy, what did you do?" Jayla repeated, "Jordy, what you doin?"

... can name/recognize all of her grandparents, aunts and uncles, and Baby Miles.

... can sing almost her whole alphabet! She needs a little help in the middle of it.

... loves to sing Twinkle Twinkle, Row Row, and Jingle Bells. (Yes, after much begging from Jordyn, we are back to listening to Christmas music in the van. Ugh.)

... loves the warm weather and has enjoyed sidewalk chalk, riding her bike, swinging, and playing at the park. She has no fear and goes down all of the slides by herself ... and if her daddy hadn't stopped her, she would have gone down the big slides head first!

... still has a few teeth that we are waiting on!

... continues to throw her fits each day. I am praying that this ends soon. It is so stressful. She has such a sweet side to her, but she can also throw the biggest screaming fit I've ever seen.

... is so sweet to Jaxon. I just love watching her hug and kiss him!

Happy 23-Months, Jayla! :)

Last Weekend!

I am finally getting pictures posted from last weekend! Being behind on everything is typical for my life right now. :)

We had a get together with Justin's family last weekend. Justin's parents, Darin, Kathryn, & Miles were there, along with his grandparents,Uncle Roger & Aunt Sherri, Uncle Steve & Aunt Tracy, Blake & Brody. We had so much fun spending the day with everyone!

We spent most of the day catching up with everyone, chasing our kids around the house, and we played outside for a bit since it was so nice. (Side note - Justin beat his dad and his brother in HORSE twice last weekend. Then, I played Justin and beat him. So - that makes me the overall champion, right?!) :)

Just a few pictures from the weekend ...

Jordyn was a cheerleader during the basketball games that the guys were playing - she loves to cheer!

Daddy with his girls!

Aunt Tracy and Jaxon

Grandpa Marlin and Uncle Steve playing with Jaxon. Jaxon thought they were so funny!

Our kids got to meet Miles for the first time - their first cousin! :) The girls love to talk to about Baby Miles. Jordyn held him, and she loved it!

I just love this sweet face!

On Sunday we all went to church and then we had lunch at Justin's grandma's house. Grandma Helen made some yummy food. Too bad that at all times during the meal, one or more of the kids were crying. They all took a turn at screaming. It was lovely!

Jordyn helped with the cleanup after we ate.

This little girl was super silly! (and super tired - she took a 4 hour nap)

One last picture - Sweet Miles snuggling with his mommy. :)

Our weekend was fun! :)
