Jordyn - 23 Months

Where has the time gone? Jordyn is 23 months old now, and I can't believe that next month when I type this post, we will have a 2 year old!

I just love this picture!
*I got this 3-piece Calvin Klein outfit at Younkers, and I just love it! It was a $60 outfit, which I was not about to spend, but I bought it during Crazy Days, and I paid $18 for the whole thing! It's absolutely adorable!

Being silly!

What is Jordyn up to?

Jordyn ...

... weighs about 29 pounds.

... still wears size 4 diapers. (Jayla will pass her up at this rate - ha!)

... wants to always wear a Cookie Monster diaper or a Super Groover diaper. She has to dig through the diaper basket each time we change her diaper to find either Cookie Monster or Super Groover. I can't tell you how many fits she has thrown when all that is left in the basket is Elmo, Big Bird, or Ernie!

... wears mostly 24-month clothes, but also some 18-month and some 2T.

... wears size 7 or 8 shoe.

... talks, talks, and talks. We often have people stop us and ask us how old she is and cannot believe it when we tell them that she isn't 2 yet. We definitely feel that our wonderful daycare has helped with this. :) Of course Justin and I will take credit too, but we also know that she is learning a ton at school!

... can sing her ABC's (every letter) all by herself!

... sings Twinkle Twinkle and Jesus Loves Me all by herself. Our favorite is listening to her sing Jesus Loves Me - when she gets to the chorus, she says a different name when she sings "Yes, Jesus loves _________. And - sometimes she even says Gizmo's name in there. Ha!

... is eating a little better, but still NO vegetables. It's been a year. Good thing for vitamins!

... has gotten into trouble a few times at daycare. She has been pushing kids. Ugh. I asked her about it, and she blamed another child. To her defense, the other child gets in trouble all the time, but we had to have a little chat about being nice to our friends. I know it won't be the last little chat we have. :)

... continues to work on going potty on the "big girl potty." We have started rewarding her with Sixlets, which we call "chocolate treats," and she LOVES them. She often asks for "chocolate treats," but she knows she can't have them if she doesn't go potty.

... continues to love Elmo (and the whole Sesame Street gang), books, riding her bike, playing outside, going down the slide, Mickey House Clubhouse, singing, giving love to Jayla, chasing Gizmo, fruit snacks, apple juice, string cheese, her blanket, her baby, play-doh, and coloring.

... thinks that she should have "tylenol" (tywenol as Jordyn calls it) every morning. So ... we pretend and fill the syringe with water! Should a 23-month old really know the name of medicine?

Jordyn - we can't believe you're almost 2! You bring so much laughter and love to our lives! We love you!

A List of Updates

Sometimes it's easiest for me to update using a list. :)

*This little cutie still isn't feeling 100%. Ugh. We feel so bad for her. She has been getting nebulizer treatments for 3+ weeks.

*Today she went back to the doctor for a 3rd appointment. She will continue to be on the nebulizer for a little while. Her cough seems to be better for the most part ... well, except in the mornings. She coughs so hard after she wakes up. Today she coughed hard enough to throw up everything she ate ... all over me and all over our bed. And to make it worse, I NEVER get dressed until after I feed her ... except for today ... of course. Needless to say my pants were covered. Lovely. Outfit number 2 by 5:45 this morning!

*Ten minutes before Justin picked up Jayla from daycare to go to the doctor, I received a call saying that Jordyn was throwing up. So ... Justin took Jayla to the doctor, and I took Jordyn home. And ... of course she threw up in the car on the way home. Ugh.

*We are also checking to see if Jayla has a parasite ... but she's still super happy ...

*These Elmo pj's still give us problems ... ha ... and now she's the cookie monster on top of it! She took the jar out of the cupboard and tried to "hide" from Mommy!

*Speaking of hiding, Jordyn thought that she was hiding from Mommy ...

*We finally got to have church in our church building on Sunday!!! Our church was adding on/remodeling, and we've been having church in a school gym since May 1. It was wonderful to be back in our church ... and the new addition is beautiful!

*I'm getting nervous for our first airplane ride with the girls when we fly out for Darin and Kathryn's wedding.

*Do you want to know why the Vikings won??? It is because we finally got Jordyn's Brett Favre jersey out and had her wear it. Last year they only lost when she didn't wear it (well, except that last game against the Saints). Anywho, she hadn't worn it yet this year ... Vikings fans, you can thank Jordyn. :)

*Jordyn's speech and memory absolutely AMAZE us. She pays attention to every single detail of everything and doesn't forget anything. I can't believe how much information she has taken in and has not forgotten! We LOVE hearing her talk. She has been telling for me 3 days that "Miss Melissa" (her teacher at daycare) was sick. I didn't believe her ... then I asked today, and they told me that Jordyn had given me the correct information. Miss Melissa had been sick for the last 3 days at daycare! (I'll update more about Jordyn in her 23-month post ... coming soon!)

*These blue eyes are so beautiful!

*I have decided to stop nursing Jayla. I have very mixed feelings about this. I nursed Jordyn until she was 10 months old ... once Jordyn was 6 months old, we started giving her a little formula. I feel horrible that I am not doing the same with Jayla. However, I am finding that I am so far behind on work because I use my planning time to pump and also give up part of my lunch time. Now, I realize that other people do this too, but it just wasn't working for me this time around. And ... Jayla was not eating well from me anymore, so often times I would feed her at home, she wouldn't eat well, and I would have to pump so that she could finish eating. That was taking so much time. I feel super guilty that I'm stopping ... nobody has made me feel that way, but I do. I have a bunch of frozen milk for Jayla, but she also likes formula, which is great. (except Similac which she threw up majorly when we gave it to her - I'm pretty sure it was the stuff that was recalled, but we had already tossed the can) I wish formula wasn't so expensive, however I think it's worth my sanity. :)

*Jayla grabs everything within her reach. She completely impressed me tonight when she grabbed Jordyn's block container, picked it up, and played with the blocks!

*Justin had to be out of town on Monday/Tuesday. When I got home from work on Monday, I found these waiting for me ...

*They are absolutely beautiful! Thanks, Justin!! I love you!

*So ... we are just sitting around waiting for our girls to get healthy! The flu, Bronchiolitis, a possible parasite ... ugh! Hopefully it's all over by the time we leave for the wedding!

Family Pictures

We had some family pictures taken about a month and a half ago ... and I am finally getting them put the computer. My sister, Kandi, took these pictures. She does a wonderful job with pictures. We decided to go to the Japanese Gardens to do the pictures. Beautiful place but a bad idea on the day we went! We went on the HOTTEST night of the year (100+ degrees and then a ton of humidity on top of that!). Not only were we all sweating to death, the mosquitoes were unbelievable. We all had bug spray on, and we still got eaten alive. We didn't even get through a fourth of the park ... after 10 minutes, we put the girls back in the stroller and literally took off sprinting to our car. It was horrible! We're hoping to do some fall pictures there, right Kandi? :)

With all of the previously mentioned factors, getting a picture in which all 4 of us were looking at the camera and not swatting mosquitoes, was not the easiest task. Bless Kandi's heart for braving the horrible conditions with us! She was wonderful!
I'm pretty sure Jayla was watching a swarm of mosquitoes! Ha!

After our 10 minute session, we headed back to our house. We took a few pictures outside, but Jordyn thought it was time to golf instead.
And then we tried a few inside ... this basically sums up our photo shoot. Ha!

Thanks so much, Kandi! :)

Another Fast Week!

We have had another busy week! Jayla is finally feeling better. Justin stayed home with her Monday morning, I stayed with her Monday afternoon, and Justin stayed with her all day on Tuesday. The icky diapers have stopped, and her diaper rash has cleared up. Her diaper rash was AWFUL! I worked in daycare, and I have seen plenty of rashes, but this was one of the worst I have seen. Poor girl! She was such a trooper though, and she did great!

I think she picked up the virus at the doctor's office. Nobody else at daycare had it, and Jayla went to the doctor last Friday for a recheck on her Bronchiolitis. Jayla got sick on Saturday night. Bummer!
Here's my silly girls ...

I asked Jordyn to say cheese, and she yelled it at the top of her lungs just as I took the picture. I'm not sure if I'll ever get one of both girls looking at the camera and smiling. Ha! :)

But this one melts my heart ...

Jordyn will just go over to Jayla, sit by her, kiss her, put her arm around her ... she's so sweet to her ... and Jayla LOVES it!

Jayla is so big!

Jordyn sporting her new Elmo pj's, which have given us more problems than I would ever have imagined!

We went to Kohls last week and made the mistake of going by the pj area. Jordyn went nuts ... Elmo, Dora, Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Cookie Monster ... she was going crazy. It was quite funny. We decided to let her pick out pj's - of course picked Elmo (from the boys department - ha - they are pretty cute though). She HAD to carry them through the whole store and was even trying to put them on while she sat in her stroller. By the time we paid for them and got to the car, she had practically pulled off her own pants to put on her new pj's. Justin finally undressed her in the car and let her wear them home. So much for washing them the first time!

She HAS to wear them every night. She throws a fit literally every. single. morning. when we have to take them off of her. In fact, when the girls stayed with my parents this past weekend, Jordyn threw a fit for 45 minutes on Sunday morning because Grandma Nonna wouldn't let her wear them to church. 45 minutes! Do you think she has some stubbornness in her? My mom and dad had the girls ready for church (even early), but Jordyn continued to throw her fit - guess who didn't make it to church on Sunday?! (Jayla may have added to that as well since she wasn't feeling well and had dirty diaper after diaper.) I had to laugh ... last Sunday she threw a fit because we wouldn't let her wear her Dora bike helmet to church, this Sunday was Elmo pj's ... what's next?!

Check out these two cuties ...

The blue eyes of the family ...

The brown eyes of the family ...

We're happy it's Friday ... time to regroup, relax (ha!), run errands, and clean up the house.

Will you please pray for all of our dear friends in Owatonna? They were hit hard with rain on Thursday which has caused major flooding through the entire town. It is so sad to see the pictures. Owatonna is such a nice community. Most of the roads, including the interstate, are closed. School was cancelled today. Please pray for the water to go down quickly.

Weekend Getaway

We had such a fun weekend! We dropped Jordyn and Jayla off at my parents on Friday around dinner time, and we headed to Cedar Falls to meet up with Justin's college roommates and their wives for the weekend. We have hardly been back to CF since we graduated, and it had been over 2 years since we last saw some of his roommates. We all live so far apart ... 2 are near the Chicago area, 1 in the Des Moines area, 1 in the CF area, and we're all the way in SF! Cedar Falls is a pretty central meeting place for all of us.

All of Justin's roommates grew up in CF, so their parents are all there. We were fortunate to be able to stay at Jarren's parent's house for the weekend.

We got there at about 11:15 on Friday night. It's a 5+ hour drive from SF. The guys got up bright and early Saturday morning to golf.

Jen (Jarren's wife) and I went shopping and to a bridal shower on Saturday. We had a nice time at the shower, and I was able to meet up with a college friend at the shower that I haven't seen since graduation. It was so fun to chat with Laura. She has some exciting news ... she's pregnant with twins!!! :) I am so excited for her and her husband!

Everyone got together for lunch ... Justin & myself, Jarren & Jen, Jordan & Jenny, Matt, and Greg. We had such a great time together! It was fun to chat about our kids. Jarren and Jen have Hudsen who is 2 months younger than Jordyn, Jordan and Jenny have Elijah and Timothy - Elijah is 1 month younger than Jordyn and Timothy is 2 weeks younger than Jayla. We were bummed that they didn't get to meet our girls, but it was nice to have a weekend away. :)

Sadly, I didn't take many pictures while we were gone - just 3!

Some of us headed the UNI football game on Saturday to cheer on the Panthers ...

Jarren, Jordan, and Justin ... (Jen and I were also at the game.)I was so excited to run into these two kiddos who are so special to us ...
I baby-sat Taylor and Ben for about 3 1/2 years during college! I can't believe that Taylor is a 6th grader and Ben is a 3rd grader. Justin and I talk about them often ... Ben loved that Justin was a UNI football player, and we talk about Taylor almost every time we drive by the soccer complex here because we used to go watch Taylor play soccer in CF. We also mention them every time we decorate our Christmas tree, because they each gave us a Christmas ornament right before we moved from CF. Those ornaments are hung on our tree every year, and each year we read their Christmas card that we keep in the box. We sure miss these two wonderful kids and their parents, Scott and Meg!

A few of us went out to eat on Saturday night at one of our favorite restaurants (The OP), and then I think we all crashed from exhaustion!

On Sunday we spent a little more time with Jarren, Jen, Hudsen, Jarren's parents, Jordan, Jenny, Elijah, Timothy, and Jordan's parents before heading back home. It was such a busy and jammed-packed weekend, but it was so much fun!

The girls had a GREAT time with Bompa Buzz, Grandma Nonna, Auntie Kiki, Auntie Kanni, Uncle Aric, Uncle BJ, and Auntie De-in.

And to our CF crew ... let's not wait another 2 years to get together!
