Omaha Zoo With the Girls + Good Friends = Very Fun Weekend!

We had another fun weekend! All summer we have wanted to take the girls to the Omaha Zoo. We were supposed to go with my brother and SIL in June, but it stormed the whole weekend, so we didn't head down there. This weekend was free for us, and I mentioned to my friend, Brandie, that we were thinking of going. Brandie, Dan, and their boys live in Des Moines and I got to see them when we were down there a month ago. It had been 2 1/2 years since we saw each other. Brandie mentioned that they had thought about going to the zoo this weekend too, so we made plans to meet each other. It worked out perfectly! I was so excited to see them again - twice in a month is way better than once in 2 1/2 years!!!

Our trip to Omaha was a lot of fun. However - it had to have the been busiest day of the summer at the zoo. It took us 30 minutes to find a parking spot. The place was packed! We decided that next time we would go in the middle of the week. :)

We didn't get to see everything at the zoo, but we sure saw a lot! We knew that with 4 little kiddos, that we would miss some things, but we still saw plenty!

Jordyn was super excited when we got to the zoo. We let her out of the stroller and she was running around, clapping, waving her arms - she totally cracked us up. I'm pretty sure that she could have stayed by this lion the entire day and been super content ...

She thought that lion was the greatest thing!
Our first stop was the orangutans. They were pretty funny. This one kept reaching his hand through the net wanting things from people ...
We saw the tigers ... (and I thought this picture had turned out better than it did - I guess the sun was in the wrong spot, so you can't really see the tiger) ...
Jordyn and Coehn ...
We went to the petting zoo - Jordyn wasn't sure what to think. She liked the goats, but she didn't want to touch them at first. Eventually I got her to touch one.
Jordyn loved the giraffes! Our daycare has giraffe decorations throughout it, and she is always talking about them.
Jordyn's very favorite animals at the zoo were the penguins! She LOVED them, and she would have been happy staying there all day. She threw quite a fit when we moved on to the next exhibit.

She loved how they would swim right next to her ...
Coehn and Jordyn checking out the penguins ...

Checking out some fish at the aquarium ...
She also loved walking under all of the fish in the aquarium ...

I promise Jayla was with us, but she spent most of our zoo trip doing this ...
We enjoyed going through the jungle - mostly because it was cooler in there. Ha! I have always been impressed with the jungle.
Jordyn and Daddy ...
I love this little cutie! :)
Renae - This picture is for you. Remember the tapir?
A waterfall in the jungle ...
This little cutie finally woke up, so we took her out to get a few pictures of her at the zoo!

I love my girls!
Jayla found something that she liked looking at, but I'm not sure what it was ...
After the zoo, we headed to the hotel. We were all hot, tired, and Jayla could not wait to get out of the car seat! She was excited when I put her on the bed ...

I wanted a picture of the girls in their monkey outfits ... Jordyn was eating string cheese, and I told her to say "cheese," but instead, she took a huge bite and showed it to me ...
(In case you're wondering, Jayla has already outgrown her first monkey outfit so I bought it in a bigger size so that she can still match Jordyn)

All 4 of the kids ... Jayla, Jordyn, Lexon, and Coehn ... I love how well the boys sit for pictures, and then there's Jordyn ... ha!
Brandie and Dan's little guys are so cute! Lexon is a couple of months older than Jordyn ...
(and I just realized I didn't get a close up of Coehn)

Brandie and Jayla ...
Jordyn got a little jealous and wanted to sit on her lap too ...
After the zoo we needed a little down time, and the kids were all so excited to read books!
We made dinner easy on all of us and ordered pizza ...

Then it was time to swim! (and yes, after driving for more than 2 1/2 hours, spending 4 hours at the zoo, and eating pizza, we were all completely exhausted, but we still managed to swim)

The hotel had a couple of water slides - Jordyn LOVED them! We were going to put Jayla in the pool, but the water was super cold, so I stayed out with her. Justin was exhausted after doing the water slide about 25 times with Jordyn ...
She smiled and giggled the whole way down the slide every single time!
The landing ...
Jayla fell asleep while we were at the pool, but she woke up when we got back to the room. I made sure to get a couple of pictures of her in her swimming suit! I wish the water had been warmer, because she loves to swim.

Jayla had a meltdown for about an hour after swimming. Normally we can calm her down by walking around with her, but it didn't work this time. I was sure she was hungry, but she wouldn't eat. I finally did get her to eat, and then she calmed down.

Once both girls were calm for the night and Brandie and Dan's boys were calm, Brandie and I headed down to the Perkins that was attached to our hotel for dessert and just some time to chat. We had such a great time! Brandie and I lived together for 2 years in college so we were used to chatting all the time - you can probably imagine how much we had to catch up on after not seeing eachother for so long!

Our day was fun, but our night was HORRIBLE. Jordyn cried (and screamed) from about midnight until 4 AM. We could not figure out what was wrong. The only thing we could think of was her ears. We think she might have gotten a little water in her right ear one trip down the slide. I did give her some tylenol which seemed to help relax her a little. She finally fell asleep (and so did I) just in time for Jayla to wake up and want to eat. :) I was exhausted! I was also feeling awful for the people who rooms next to us - hopefully the walls weren't paper thin!

After our great night of sleep (ha!), we all packed up, ate breakfast together and then each headed home. I am so glad that we were able to make the weekend work to get together. :)

(PS - Sorry, Dan, I realized that you weren't in a single picture of mine!)

Floods :(

My hometown received 10-11 inches of rain in just a few short hours last night. George is a mess, and I can't believe some of the pictures that I have seen. I just read that 500 homes were damaged/flooded -- this is a town of just over 1000 people, so that means a good majority of the houses were damaged. Both my parents and brother/sister-in-law had water in their basements, but everything seems to be okay at this point. It's hard to believe another round of storms has struck, just a few short weeks after the tornadoes hit Little Rock.

Amy J. - I hope you don't mind that I "borrowed" some of your pictures from facebook. :)

One of our town parks/ball diamonds ...
The bridge leading into town ...
Teeter-totters from the park ...
Park/restrooms near the elementary school ...
I can't even imagine the clean up that is taking place today (and for the upcoming days).

Owatonna friends - this was much like the flooding we had during fair week in 2007.

A Little Blue

My sister took these pictures of Jordyn at the 4th of July parade, and I forgot that I hadn't posted them yet.
