We Are Home!

We are home! We got to bring Jayla home from the hospital yesterday afternoon. It feels great to be home, and Jayla is doing great! We didn't get any real answers as to what happened, but the doctors feel it is a viral infection. We have a couple of things we're waiting on that will take about 2 weeks, so that's about all we know. Jayla has a follow up appointment on Wednesday.

Jayla did so great while we were in the hospital. She was very content and showed off smiles at times. Of course she was also quite lethargic for the first part of her stay, but we could tell at about 1AM on Saturday she was turning the corner. :)

It broke our hearts to watch her go through so much ... when babies get a fever at such a young age it triggers a protocol that doctors have to follow. This included a spinal tab, chest xrays, multiple heal pokes, an IV, lots of blood work, a urine sample, and other tests not done through blood work (I'll just leave it at that and spare you the details). It was awful to know she was going through all of that. Justin sat with her through most of it, and I kept Jordyn entertained. None of us were allowed in during the spinal tap, and it was so awful to hear her screaming.

I took a few pictures while we were in the hospital. Jordyn has a hospital page in her scrapbook from her RSV stay, so I guess Jayla will have one from this stay as well. We had to explain to the girls that not everything has to be equal - and hospital stays are one of those! :)

Jayla wasn't eating well, so I was constantly pumping, and then she would just eat a little from the bottle. I'm glad to be done with pumping every 3-4 hours since she's back to eating well! Jayla was not sleeping well in her crib. She's used to sleeping in a bassinet, and it seemed as though the crib was too big for her. They offered us a bouncy seat, which was perfect! She loves ours at home, and she loves the vibrating part of the chair - this kept her very happy and she slept great!

I just love this picture! She was so smiley and giggly - and right as I snapped the picture she started to stick out her tongue! She's so cute!
Justin took this last picture with his phone, so it isn't quite as clear - but this how Jayla almost always sleeps ...
We are so thankful that Jayla is home and feeling better! Thanks for your prayers, friends!

I caught a bug while we were in the hospital, and I woke up at 4 AM yesterday with a fever and the worst headache I've ever had. By the time we got home, I couldn't even open or close my eyes without crying because it hurt so bad. My fever broke at about 2 this morning, and my headache is mostly gone today.

By the way - the nurses and doctors couldn't believe how big Jayla was! (Neither can we!) She is about 12 1/2 pounds right now and has grown almost 4 inches since she was born! She's going to pass Jordyn up in no time! Jordyn was this size at about 3-4 months old!

PS - I just found out that Justin's cousin's little boy is now in the hospital with the same thing! He had a high fever last night, and he just went through everything Jayla did. He is 2 days younger than Jayla, and we were with them last weekend - they don't live near us, but we got to spend time with them last Saturday. (There's a picture of Jayla and Aaron in a previous post.) Please keep them all in your prayers as well.
