Vegas Vacation!

Justin and I took a 4 day/3 night trip to Las Vegas this week. Our trip actually turned into a 5 day/4 night trip, but more on that later.

We had a fabulous trip! It was of course hard to leave Jordyn, but we knew she would be spoiled and very loved by all of her grandparents. She went back and forth between their houses - and it sounds like she had so much fun! We brought Jordyn to my parent's house on Sunday night. We got back to Sioux Falls around 9 PM, and we still had to do some packing. We finally made it to bed at about midnight, woke up at about 3 AM, left for the airport at 4 AM, and got on our plane at 5:40 AM. We had a short stop in Salt Lake City, and we were in Las Vegas by 9:30 AM.

Our travel and check-in went great! We had arranged for a shuttle to pick us up at the airport. He was there on time, and within 20 minutes we were already at the Mirage. Since we arrived early, they were so helpful and let us check in early. We had requested this when we booked the trip ... they let us check in early while others had to wait for about an hour until 11:00. They also gave us a fridge in our room for free ... since I'm still nursing, I needed it. They considered it a medical reason and didn't make us pay for it. Justin said that no matter what, I would always be a nursing mom on any trip we went on ... having a fridge was great! :)

It was about 100-110 degrees the whole time we were there. Actually, it cooled off to a nice, chilly 90 degrees during the night. It was hot, but since there isn't humidity like we have here, it was tolerable. We spent a lot of time outside, and we just got used to it.
I won't share all 130 pictures that we took, but don't worry, I am still sharing plenty!

Justin tried a slot machine shortly after we arrived ... too bad luck wasn't on his side. :)
Outside of the Mirage ... the entrance was beautiful!
Since we arrived so early, we spent the first day at the pool and walking around the strip. The evening was one the highlights from our trip ... we saw the Lion King. I have wanted to see this for many years. I don't know how it compares to NYC Broadway, but it was incredible in Las Vegas. I love musicals, and this was by far one of my favorites. Justin enjoyed it just as much as I did!

All ready to head out to the Lion King!
Excited about the Lion King!
Nighttime in Las Vegas
The Bellagio water/light show. We actually watched this a few times since we happened to be walking by at different times that it was going on.
Each morning we got up and were at the pool by 8:00. This is normal for us when we're on a vacation. We do not sleep in on vacation! We always laughed about how we were so early to the pools in Jamaica that we had at least an hour to ourselves. Las Vegas was a different story. The first morning we headed down at about 7:55 (pool opened at 8:00) ... only to find out that we were about #'s 150 and 151 in line. Everyone wanted to make sure they had a chair! Too funny! We were early enough though to always have great seats!

The swimming pool was beautiful!
Starbucks was very necessary our first morning there. We had been up for 23 hours the day before, and we slept about 5 hours our first night there. A little Starbucks got us going, and we were great!
We loved the pool!
We didn't eat at any fancy restaurants while we were there. We did eat at The Cheesecake Factory though. :) Yum! We were very full after our meals, but you have to get cheesecake when you're there! We had to share a piece though of this delicious dessert!

Outside of the Mirage - such a beautiful place! One of my very favorite things about our trip (and the Mirage) was Siegfried and Roy's Dolphin Habitat and Secret Garden. I absolutely love dolphins. Both times we went to Jamaica, we talked about swimming with the dolphins, but we didn't do either time. (The first time because it was quite a distance from our resort and the second time because we didn't want to leave our resort any more than necessary due to a bad bus ride on the way to our resort.) The dolphin habitat was incredible. The dolphins kept coming up to us. We actually considered doing the Dolphin Trainer for a day, but at $550 a person, we decided we just would wait and swim with the dolphins on our next Caribbean vacation.
Do I look as excited as a little kid waiting to open their Christmas presents?!?!

The mom and baby were so fun to watch. Whatever the mom did, the baby did as well. These two kept jumping out the water (no trainers around) right by us. We were the only two on this side of the pool, and they stayed by us.
The Secret Garden with the cats was nice as well. Here's one of the lions in Siegfried and Roy's Secret Garden ...
The tigers ...

Before we left the Secret Garden, we made one more trip back to the dolphins. :)

Inside Caesar's Palace.
We gambled a little ... here's the 1 cent dolphin machine that I actually won a little money on.
We visited M & M World.

We also visited Coke Land (but I didn't take any pictures there).

This Stone Man was absolutely incredible. I had seen these in Chicago, San Francisco, and a couple of other places, but this one was by far the best. Justin gave him some money, and the guy wanted his picture with Justin.
All ready to go out!
We spent about three hours at the pool before we had to go pack up our things on our last day.

Our hotel room at the Mirage was beautiful! We never pay for the upgraded rooms when we travel, because we hardly spend time in our rooms. This is the basic room, but it was super nice! (In fact, the bedding was so nice, we may order the pillows they had - we loved them!)

We went from super nice to ... well, not so nice when we got stuck in Salt Lake City. Our flight from Las Vegas to Salt Lake City got delayed. We missed our flight to Sioux Falls by 7 minutes. We all thought they would hold the plane, but no luck. 7 minutes! Can you believe that! Ugh! Delta gave us a hotel room and food vouchers. We did luck out though and got a 9:45 AM flight. We got back to SF today at about 1:00.

Here's Justin pouting that we're stuck ... in our hotel room complete with crooked lamp shades, holes in the wall, rust in the bathroom, and curtains that hardly closed. I guess we were thankful for a bed that was fairly decent. :)
We boarded out plane from SLC to Sioux Falls outside ... so I thought I should take one quick pictures of the mountains.
We had a wonderful trip ... but it was great to come home to our sweet Jordyn! :)

(If you made it this far in the post, thanks for reading! I know, it was a long one!)

I woke up to an incredibly precious sound this morning ... Jordyn was saying "Mama" into the monitor this morning. We have been practicing a lot ... I'm not sure that she totally knew that she was calling for me, but of course I went running with a big smile when I heard her talking! :)

Here's our princess before church this morning ...

Jordyn was supposed to be taking a nap today, but instead she was waiting for me to come check on her. She was very quiet so I thought she was sleeping (I couldn't hear a single noise on the monitor). However, this is what I found when I went into her room ...

How could I not laugh and play peek-a-boo with her?! Needless to say, naptime started a little late today!

Falls Park

On Sunday evening (yes, I'm a little behind on posting this) we took Jordyn for a walk around Falls Park. Justin needed to grab something from his office, and his office is near the park. We parked at his office, hopped on the trail and headed to the falls. You might remember this post about Falls Park from last year! I was 6 months pregnant!

The falls are absolutely beautiful!

Jordyn had a great time! She loved watching the water. This picture was taken in the exact same spot that we took our picture on our bike last year. (Click on "Falls Park" in the first paragraph to see last year's post.)

Watching the falls with Daddy

The sun was a little bright for Jordyn in this picture ... but we were afraid her hat would blow off.
We had a great time! We can't wait to take Jordyn again! :)
