6 Months!

Our baby girl is 6 months old today!

I can hardly believe how fast 6 months has gone! Although we haven't had her 6 month appointment yet, we know that Jordyn is about 26 inches long and weighs about 16 pounds. She is just starting to grow out of a few of her 3-6 month clothes and is getting into some of her 6-9 month clothes. :) She is still her in Size 2 diapers, but we are already prepared for Size 3.

Some of Jordyn's favorites at 6 months...

*Jordyn loves to roll ... and she loves to roll from one end of the living room to the other (we usually have to stop her before she gets to the hardwood floor).

*One of Jordyn's best friends is the cow on her exersaucer. She loves this toy, and I am afraid that she plays with it so hard that it might break off!

*Jordyn loves books ... especially her 2 new books about Elmo!

*Jordyn loves to eat! She loves vegetables and fruit. (Veggies are by far her favorite though!)

*Jordyn is working really hard on sitting ... she is getting close!

*Jordyn is far from crawling, but she can put herself up on her knees, put her butt in the air, and scoot.

*Jordyn is really starting to pay attention to Gizmo. She reaches out to touch him every time he gets near her. He doesn't really care to have his fur pulled by her though!

*Jordyn loves to be tickled. Her giggles are absolutely hilarious!

*Jordyn loves when her daddy dances and sings for her.

*Jordyn loves the workers at her daycare. She smiles so much at them when I pick her up at the end of the day. Makes me feel good that she is being well-taken care of.

Some of our favorite things that Jordyn does ...

*We love listening to Jordyn talk and laugh. There are some days when she doesn't stop talking ... but we love every minute of it!

*We love reading to Jordyn. Her eyes light up every time we put a book in front of her.

*We love to snuggle. And although snuggling isn't totally her favorite thing to do anymore, we just love it when she's tired and does want to snuggle.

*We can't believe how happy and content this girl is! Rarely does she cry - she's all smiles and giggles!

*We love watching Jordyn explore. Daddy often calls her "Jordyn the Explorer" when she starts to roll across the room. If she sees a toy or book across the room, she will roll until she gets to it!

Jordyn's 6 month wellness check will not be for a couple of weeks. She can't have her 6 months shots for a couple of weeks (due to the ear infection she had at 4 months, which delayed her 4 month shots). So instead of doing 2 doctor appointments, the doctor said he would just wait to do her wellness check when she comes in for her shots.

Happy 6 Month Birthday, Jordyn! WE LOVE YOU!

PS - Jordyn is also very interested in the computer keyboard ... she decided to do some typing too: y tttthhhhggbd b bbvvvv c

Cow Good ... Pig Bad

I know that I have posted this picture before, but I just have to say that I am so glad that Jordyn sticks to "eating" her cow on her Exersaucer, and not her pig after the scare about the swine flu!

Our Little Reader!

Have I ever mentioned how much Jordyn loves to read? The girls at daycare even talk about it! My parents stopped by for a couple of hours yesterday ... and they brought Jordyn a new book. And not only did they bring a new book, they brought an Elmo book. (Jordyn LOVES Elmo!) She was just in love with this book! In the last 24 hours, I bet that we have read this book 20 times!

Taking a break from reading to give Mom a quick smile for the camera.
After Jordyn eats, we usually leave her in her high chair for about 20 minutes. She loves to play with toys, but mostly, she loves to look at books. Justin got the camera out while I was getting ready for church this morning. (and no, we didn't put the book in her hands, she picked it up, held it the right way, and acted like she was really reading)

She does enjoy eating her books as well. :)

Jordyn had a rough night last night (has something to do with the weekends). For some reason on the weekends, she just wants to be held at night. So, once again, Jordyn and I cuddled almost the whole night on the couch. Cuddling is worth losing a little sleep to me. :) She was bright-eyed this morning, and very silly before church. Finally, during church and on the way home, she fell asleep! Mom even got in a 2 hour nap today!!!! I couldn't resist a quick picture of her sleeping and snuggling with her favorite bear!

We had a wonderful weekend! (minus Jordyn's sleeping last night) We relaxed quite a bit yesterday and took a little trip to the mall last night to get out of the house. Today we went to church, relaxed a lot this afternoon, and had some guests stop by tonight! Justin's grandparents stopped by after church ... and they brought us ice cream sundaes! Yum!!

Back to another work week tomorrow ... can you believe we only have 3 more Monday's left of school!?! Have a great week!

(PS ... This week is National Infertility Week ... please pray for those couples/families who are wanting children. We are feeling so completely blessed this year, but we are in prayer for those families who are dealing with infertility.)

A Great Video

I just had to share this video. Our guidance counselor shared it with the 2nd graders this week during a teamwork lesson! This was an act that was on Conan O'Brien. Enjoy!

Happy Wednesday!

It has once again been a busy week, so I'm behind on updating. Justin has had meetings until 7 the last two nights and has another tomorrow, so we are both worn out ... and add to that a little girl who didn't sleep well Saturday night, Sunday night, or Monday night. Each night is gradually getting a little better (last night was almost back to normal of sleeping the whole night), so I am hopeful that tonight will be great!
Jordyn's teeth are very much bothering her. My parents were here last night for a little while to help out, and she just cried because of pain. We just felt so badly for her. She is chewing so hard on anything we give her. She loves cold teething rings, but what she loves even more are her daddy's cold popsicles! She kept grabbing it from his hands tonight and putting it in her mouth. She cried when he took it away from her. Thank goodness for Motrin! We have also been told about a pill that is good for teething. We will have to check that out! Through the pain though, she continues to be so very happy! :)

This picture was taken last night. Gizmo and I got home from a walk to find Jordyn on the floor with Justin in only her diaper. I knew exactly what that meant! I was just thrilled that Justin had to change the diaper for once. :) He got her cleaned up, but we put her right in the tub as soon as I got home.
We are loving the beautiful weather! Jordyn and I walked about 2 miles today. Since I wanted to go on a little longer walk today, we left Gizmo home. I didn't think I could handle the stroller and dog for 2 miles today. We are supposed to have beautiful weather again tomorrow - yay!
We hope you're enjoying the great weather as much as we are!

E for Effort!

On Monday I felt like having pancakes for dinner. I don't often feel like breakfast food for dinner, but when I do, Justin takes advantage of it, because he loves it! I needed to feed Jordyn, and then I told Justin I would start dinner after that. He told me he wanted to make pancakes and eggs all by himself ... no help at all from me. He told me that I couldn't give him any directions. So ... he began to make pancakes. If only I had been prepared with the camera for Pancake Round 1 - unfortunately, I didn't get that picture, but let me tell you, it was a disaster! After making a mess of the griddle, a pan, a spatula, and the entire counter and island, round #1 did not turn out ... at all! In fact, Justin scraped them off of the griddle after 30 seconds and threw them away ... only for him to say ... "why didn't you tell me that would happen?" Remember he asked for no help at all!!!
He then started Round 2 ... and by this point I'm laughing so hard ... his first comment was "you cannot blog about this" ... which totally made me run for the camera! I attempted to get a picture, but he put his arm in the way ...
(Notice the mess on the griddle?)
Round #3 went much better, and of course, the pancakes tasted great! Third time was definitely a charm!

A great comparison ... Round 1 was in the garbage, Round 2 on the left, and Round 3 on the right! :)

Justin gets and E for Effort ... actually, they really did taste good! :) I love Justin's willingness to try anything ... what I didn't love was the mess left to be cleaned up through the whole kitchen. Definitely good for a laugh though!

Finally, an update from the Overmans!

I should warn you - there a lot of pictures in this update ... and it's quite random since that is how my brain has been working today. :) Since I haven't updated since Wednesday, I have lots to share! We have had a wonderful weekend! If only it would slow down - I believe that I say that every Sunday!
Jordyn is loving the warm weather ... because she loves to just wear onesies around the house ...

She also loves walks! The weather was super nice on Friday, so we all went for a walk after work. Here's Jordyn and Gizmo already to go! I tried to get an action shot of Gizmo clapping when we said "walk", but we couldn't seem to capture it this time.Saturday was a busy day! Justin went and played paintball with my brother and his friends, while my sisters, aunt, cousins, and I threw Devin a shower! We had a great time! Unfortunately I didn't take too many pictures at the shower ... what was I thinking??!! Thankfully my sister did, but I don't have them right now to post on here. (and I don't even have one of Devin! Really, What was I thinking?!) Jordyn got to meet some of my cousins and cousins' kids for the first time. Here she is with my cousin, Nikki and her son Dustin and daughter Addi (behind Nikki) and also my cousin Tyler's daughter, Aubrey! Dustin had a John Deere tractor that Jordyn seemed to like. (Liking tractors will make Grandpa Buzz proud!)
Jordyn met Leah for the first time. Leah is my cousin Tyler's daughter. She was so precious - Jordyn thought she had to touch her face.
Here's Jordyn with my mom's friend, Rhonda. Rhonda's desk is right next to my mom's at the bank, so I bet she hears "Jordyn stories" all the time. :)
Here's Jordyn and my cousin's Shelly's daughter, Kylea. :) Kylea doesn't live too far from us, so we might have to use her as a baby-sitter.
Jordyn is wearing the dress that her daddy bought her - she LOVES wearing dresses! I think it's because she loves having her legs "free."
Jordyn was passed to many people during the shower. She didn't mind one bit - she was only full of smiles. Unfortunately, she didn't really want to take any naps with all of the excitement ... and boy, did we pay for it last night! For the first time in over 3 months, Jordyn didn't sleep through the night. In fact, she pretty much just didn't sleep at all. She cried and cried and cried and couldn't get comfortable. We did sleep and cuddle from about 3:30-5:30 on the couch, and then she did sleep from about 6:00 to 7:00. I have no idea what happened (possibly teeth and just overly tired). Justin and I learned just how spoiled we really are with having a baby that has slept through the night, every night since she was 2 months old. When she finally did fall asleep this morning (on the floor), she was out!
We didn't want to miss church today though, so we had to wake her up and put her in a pretty little dress (from Taera and Chris ... the pj's in the above picture are also from them). She was pretty excited about being all dressed up ... and we thought she looked pretty cute!
I just love these two!
And even though she didn't sleep at night, she was still full of smiles this morning!
She still loves her Exersaucer ... and she apparently really loves the cow too!
We were trying to make her tired today, so we tried everything from the Exersaucer to her play gym, to the swing, to reading ... I don't know how she managed to stay awake!

Thankfully she took a nice, one hour nap this afternoon! :) And she went to bed early tonight - at 8:45! I'm thinking we'll have no problem getting through the night tonight! Before bedtime though, she decided to read Parents magazine with me.
Almost time to get pj's on!
I usually like to start my week feeling like I am somewhat caught up on sleep. I don't think that will be happening this week! I wasn't able to squeeze in a nap today, and with losing almost a whole night of sleep last night and a long work-out today, I guess my week will start with being tired. :) It's okay though ... I wouldn't change any of this! Being a mom is incredible!
Wishing you a great week!

Spring is finally arriving!

My sister, Kandi, took this adorable picture of Jordyn. Isn't Kandi going to make a great photographer??!! (oh wait, she already does!)
According to the calendar, spring arrived about a month ago ... according to the actual weather, it is finally arriving in South Dakota! We have had a few gorgeous days! Yesterday we (myself, Jordyn, and Gizmo) got out for a walk. Lesson of the day: Don't attempt walking a dog who thinks he's in control while pushing a stroller. We made it about a mile before I nearly lost my sanity ... and nearly lost control over either the dog or the stroller.
We had another beautiful day today - this time I waited for Justin to get home before we went on our walk. An extra set of hands make things much easier! I LOVE going on walks, and I just feel like I am in such a better mood with such wonderful weather. We even grilled tonight, and I just love the smell of grilling! Summer is right around the corner. (I think we have 23 days left of school ... but who's counting, right?!)
We just got down with Jordyn's bath (after a major blow out), only for her to spit up green beans all over her clean PJ's ... but I wouldn't complain or change things for a second! (and now it's time to sign off because she has just spit up 3 more times ... time for more clean PJ's)

Jordyn's 1st Easter!

Last year at Easter, we made this announcement to our families ...And wow ... have our lives ever changed! We have been incredibly blessed!
Our Easter was VERY busy, but we had a wonderful day! We went to church with Justin's family today. Jordyn did great and almost made it through the whole service. The service was a little longer than normal today, so after 1 hour, Jordyn just decided she needed more space than a church pew. So, Jordyn and I joined the 20 other parents and babies in the back of the church for the remainder of the service. :) She never cried, she was just super squirmy and making noises. I was proud of her for getting through most of the service! She was awake through the whole thing - so 1 hour of quietness was pretty good!!
Here's some pictures of our sweet baby girl in her Easter outfit. I can't tell you how excited I was to get her all dressed up! She loved being dressed up and she was so HAPPY the WHOLE day!

After church, feeding Jordyn, and a diaper change, we managed to squeeze in a few quick pictures. I wanted some pictures for 1) Jordyn looked super cute and was super happy and 2) Darin moves to Ohio this week so we needed 1 last set of pictures before his big move!
Standing in between two guys that are both about 6' 6'' makes me look super short ... and to make it worse, they were both wearing shoes, and I was not! (I'm not quite as short as the picture makes me look!)

Here's Grandpa Marlin & Grandma Shelli with Jordyn.

Uncle Darin & Jordyn
Giving Uncle Darin his good bye hug.
Just got done with a diaper change ... and eating her sweater. :)
Then we were off to my mom and dad's for lunch! My immediate family was there ... which seems to be growing very quickly ... and my grandparents also joined us for lunch. We had a great lunch! Thanks, Mom, for such a yummy lunch. (and I guess BJ helped too :))
Here's Grandpa Buzz & Grandma Ronda with Jordyn.
Uncle BJ & Aunt Devin with Jordyn (starting to get a little squirmy in this picture)
Jordyn & Mommy
Aunt Kandi & Aunt Kayla with Jordyn
Eric & Aunt Kandi with Jordyn (at this point, Jordyn just wanted to play by herself and chew on anything that would fit in her mouth)
Great Grandma Marlene & Jordyn - she was fascinated with this egg!
After lunch, it was time for the annual VanBriesen egg hunt! Yep, even though we're all grown up, all the kids (ages 21-28) headed outside for the egg hunt. My parents make up clues and then all together we have to figure it out to find the next clue. Our last clue always leads to our Easter baskets. (yep, we still get Easter baskets)
Here's Justin and Kandi - and no, they didn't find the egg. They were in the wrong spot ...
... But the rest of the family (even Jag!) knew where to look!
Our egg hunt was so much fun. We had a good laugh before the egg hunt ... my dad some of the "newcomers" (AKA Devin & Eric) might not know some of the clues. We laughed because I guess Justin isn't a "newcomer" anymore ... he's been a part of our family for almost 10 years! We told Devin and Eric that it was "newcomers" vs. "oldcomers" for the egg hunt. :)
Our last clue was "Precious Moments." Everyone was thinking the Precious Moments dolls in the house ... but I reminded them that precious moments (memories) take place in the house ... and sure enough, Jordyn was waiting inside as our precious moment. :)

After our afternoon at my mom and dad's, we headed to Justin's grandparent's for dinner. We played a game of Tripoley and ate another delicious meal! (Thanks, Helen!)

Now we're home, Jordyn is sleeping, and we are exhausted! Jordyn managed to get through the day with less than 2 hours of naps, but she was still full of smiles the entire day! Thankfully, once we got home, got her fed and changed, she was off to bed! She had a busy day, but she seemed to love every minute of it!

We hope that your Easter was wonderful, and that you were able to reflect on the true reason for celebrating such a special day!
