A Recap of 2008

Here's a little recap of our year. This update literally took me 1 1/2 hours ... I had a few issues with pictures. I would have put a few more towards the end, but I gave up. (Also, many of these pictures have been in other entries, so many will look familiar.) Enjoy!

January: We celebrated our 2nd Anniversary on January 7. We spent the weekend relaxing in the cities. We had a great weekend!

And played a little mini golf at MOA. :) (PS-What do you think of Justin's hair?!?)

February: We spent lots of time with our favorite 4-legged friend. :)We also got to spend some time with some Federated friends who had moved out of town. They were in Owatonna for a week-long training. We enjoyed hanging out with them!

March: Gizmo made this announcement ...

We had waited so long for tests to look like this ... I couldn't pass up a picture. :) And we couldn't believe it was true, so I think I took 6 or 7 tests.

And we found out that we were going to have a baby the night before leaving on a ski trip with our high school youth group at Trinity! (I had never skied before and was nervous, but even more nervous when I found out that I was pregnant!)

We were thrilled to be a part of BJ and Devin's engagement party. We are so excited that Devin will officially join our family in June of 2009. (But, she's been a part of our family since they first started dating.)

April: One of my best friends from college, Kaley, & her husband, Chris, came to visit us! We spent the day at Mall of America ... and we went to Underwater Adventure.

We traveled to Des Moines for Chris & Taera's wedding.

May: Darin graduated from ISU!

We traveled down to Delhi, IA, to meet up with some college friends for a baby shower for Bea & Greg. And ... all 4 girls were pregnant! (Jordyn will hopefully get to hang out with the 3 new baby boys soon.)

Great college friends. :)

We spent Memorial Day weekend with my family in George (for 2 days) and then the rest of the weekend at Justin's parents' new condo at Okoboji.

June: I finished my 2nd year of teaching 4th grade at McKinley. I will admit that I didn't think it would be my last year teaching at McKinley ... until about 2 weeks later when Justin received a new job offer. We made our decision to move to Sioux Falls ... and right as we were making that decision, we were in the process of building our deck.

The day the job offer came to Justin ... we found out we were having a baby GIRL. Justin's guess was right, mine was wrong. :)

July: The finished product ... (Justin and I finished it at about 11:00 one night ... our neighbors were probably glad we were moving after all the noise we created so late at night.)

My wonderful friends Janeen, Nichole, and Ellen threw me a baby shower before we moved to Sioux Falls.

We decided to be "tourists" in Sioux Falls and took a trip down to Falls Park.

August: Our house in Owatonna sold! (It actually sold in July, but it was closed on in August.) We loved our home in Owatonna, and we hope the new owners enjoy it as much as we did.

We also spent a couple of days at Beard's Resort in MN with my family. We had to leave early though so that I could come home for an interview in Sioux Falls. :)

September: We celebrated Justin's grandparents' 50th Anniversary! (This was at the end of August/beginning of September.) We spent the weekend golfing, throwing an anniversary party, and enjoying family time. Justin's family also threw me a baby shower that weekend.

Justin's family - Grandma Helen, Grandma Marcia, Jamie, Mom, Aunt Sherri, and Aunt Tracy

My family threw me a baby shower at the end of September - here's my mom, sisters, and soon to be sister-in-law.

October: The biggest month of the year! :) We celebrated many birthdays throughout October, but Justin received the best birthday present when Jordyn Faith arrived on his birthday! Jordyn arrived at 10:43 on October 30 weighing 6 pounds 12 ounces and was 20 inches long.

We also moved in our new house on October 3 - moving when you're 8 months pregnant is quite a chore! :) We are very thankful that our family could help!

November: Jordyn had her 1st professional pictures taken in November. :) And of course, she looked beautiful! We also celebrated Jordyn's 1st Thanksgiving. We are so thankful that we were able to spend so much time with our family during this time.

December: We celebrated Jordyn's 1st Christmas and the birth of our Savior!

May you all have a Blessed New Year!!

Trial run of daycare

Jordyn had her first experience of daycare today. The daycare recommended that I bring her in for a few hours this week before she starts full time next week. So ... I dropped Jordyn off at 9:00 this morning. No tears from me until I got to the car. I didn't doubt for a second that Jordyn wouldn't be well taken care of, but I just don't like the thought of daycare. So, while she was at daycare I went and got my haircut and worked out. I had to stay busy - and I didn't really want to go back to our house because I thought I would feel so guilty that she wasn't there with me. I did end up coming home to shower, but that was it. Poor Gizmo couldn't figure out where Jordyn was. He searched every room in the house, went to every place she might be (the crib, changing table, swing, bouncy chair, bassinet). He just couldn't figure it out - but maybe he was actually happy about it because then he would get all of the attention. :)
I picked Jordyn up at noon - she had had a great morning. They couldn't believe how laid back she was and also how alert she is! We would have to agree with them. Jordyn has a pretty good set of lungs on her, but we really don't hear her fuss too much ... unless she wants food! I've said it before - she LOVES to eat! I felt better after knowing she had done well while she was there for the three hours. I felt like she had been well taken care of. I know Monday will be tough for me, but I am glad that I took her in for a little while today.
Jordyn has her 2 month check up tomorrow. I can't believe that she is 2 months old today. Time is sure flying! I said that I would probably cry harder than she does tomorrow when she gets her shots. I am anxious to see how much she weights - my guess is around 11 pounds. She just keeps growing! In the last 1-2 weeks, she has really started "talking" and loves to smile. I love to just watch her and listen to her .... which is probably why my house is a mess. (I get nothing done since I just want to play with Jordyn!) :) Being a mom is wonderful, and I know Justin would agree that being a dad is wonderful too!
Ending with a few pictures today ...
Jordyn looks like she's working on her boxing skills - she's already practicing so that she can box her dad on the Wii.

Awww Mom ... another picture??!!
And maybe one day she'll be a choir director?!
Have a great afternoon!

The life of a dog ...

This is how I found Gizmo sleeping yesterday afternoon ... oh to be a dog with no worries. :)
I have posted this picture before, but it is one of my favorites. Gizmo brings such much joy into our lives ... he's definitely a lot of work at times, but he's a great snuggler.

Gizmo decided last week that we hadn't spent enough money on Christmas, so he thought a $400 bill at the vets office would help us out. Our poor little guy started coughing on Tuesday, and by Wednesday it was HORRIBLE! Justin took him to the vet - and after a lot of tests and $400, we found out Gizmo has pneumonia! (Merry Christmas!) He is finally starting to snap out of it, and his coughing is pretty much gone. Sometimes Gizmo is more work than Jordyn. (but it's worth it!)

Christmas Dress

A close up of Jordyn's Christmas dress ... and matching shoes. :)

Christmas #2 - #7 ... We Made It!

Hi Friends! We hope that you had a wonderful Christmas! We had a wonderful 4 days of Christmas celebrations. It was so nice to spend so much time with our families! Here's a rundown of our busy Christmas schedule ...

Tuesday: Christmas with the 3 of us (see previous post)
Wednesday: Dinner with Justin's family, Christmas Eve church with my family, and Christmas with my Grandpa and Grandma Kannegieter
Thursday: Christmas morning with my family, Christmas lunch with my dad's sister and family, Christmas afternoon/evening with Justin's family
Friday: Christmas with Justin's Grandpa and Grandma Van Ginkel
Saturday: Christmas with Justin's Grandpa and Grandma Overman

Jordyn did great throughout our busy schedule. She actually slept through all 7 gift openings! I made a slide show with some of our pictures. I didn't post all of them ... I didn't want to bore you too much. :)

On a side note - Jordyn is so close to sleeping through the night! Yeah! On Thursday night she slept from 11:00-4:45, and last night she slept from 10:30-5:30! I couldn't believe it! 10:30-5:30 would be a perfect schedule for me when I am back at work again! Last night was the first night I have slept for 6-7 hours since I was about 4 or 5 months pregnant! It sure felt good!

Now it's time to relax. Our gifts are put away, the house is mostly cleaned up. Our evening will consist of watching football, playing Price is Right on the Wii or the Wii Fit ... and of course snuggling with Jordyn!

Christmas #1

Ever since Justin and I have dated/been married, we have always celebrated Christmas with the 2 of us (and now the 3 of us) on December 23rd. Justin can't wait any longer to open presents, so he wasn't about to let our 10th Christmas together be any different! (Can you believe it's been 10 Christmases ... and we've only been married for almost 3 years?!) Anyway, I dressed Jordyn up in a little Christmas shirt ... she was wide awake, until it was time to open presents. She fell asleep fast and was sleeping the whole time we opened gifts. I finally took her jeans off of her and she woke up. Some of my favorite pictures of Jordyn are her holding her new doll. I know she's too young to play with a doll, but every little girl needs a doll. :) I wanted to put all of the pictures in order, but I am having a horrible time uploading pictures tonight, so they are in a very random order tonight. :) Anyway, check out Jordyn's shirt ... "All Mommy wants for Christmas is a Silent Night."

Again, sorry for the randomness with the pictures. I finally just gave up and decided to leave them in their weird placements. :)

I am pretty sure this will be my last post until after Christmas. Then I will post pictures from Christmas #2-#7. :) We'll be exhausted by the end! (If you haven't checked, this is my 4th post in the last 2 days - I impressed myself!)

Happy Holidays from the Overmans!
PS-If you could say a few extra prayers ... my grandma is currently in the hospital - she was quite sick through the night, but is doing much better today ... and Justin's grandpa had knee replacement surgery today. Both could use some extra prayers. Thanks!
