Thanksgiving Pictures

Hi Friends! We hope that all of you had a wonderful Thanksgiving! We were sure busy Thursday-Saturday, but we had a great time spending time with our family! Jordyn was sure passed around a lot, but she did great!

I have posted a few pictures from the last few days. I don't have too many from Thanksgiving Day ... those are on my sister's camera, so I need to get those from her. (Hint Hint Kandi!) :)
A family picture ... Jordyn's first Thanksgiving and soon to be first Christmas.

This picture of Jordyn is kind of funny - she looks like she's meditating with the way she's has her hands.
Sleeping Beauty!Thanksgiving with Justin's family ... all the women ... Tracy, Meggan, Marcia, Jess, Jordyn, Shelli, Jamie, & Sherri

Giving Thanks

Thanksgiving is a time each year that helps me reflect on all that I have to be thankful for. And while the list could go on and on ... here are some things I am giving thanks for this year ...

I am thankful for a God who showers us with grace, love, and forgiveness.

I am thankful for a husband who helps me in so many ways, shows so much love to Jordyn and me, and who is my best friend for life.

I am thankful for our new daughter, Jordyn, who brings so much joy to our life each day.

I am thankful for our families who show their love and support to us ... and give so much love to Jordyn.

I am thankful for our friends who have shared in our joys and our hard times.

I am thankful for Gizmo who loves to snuggle and gives me so many laughs.

I am thankful that Justin and I both have stable jobs during this time of economic uncertainty.

I am thankful that we have a new house to call our home.

I am thankful for this time of year so that I can reflect on all of our blessings.

Happy Thanksgiving Friends!

I thought I would start with pictures instead of end with them this time. :) These are some of the pictures that we had taken last week ...

It seems like Thanksgiving has snuck up on us this year! This is one of my favorite times of the year. So often I get wrapped up in the daily stresses of life, that I forget we have so much to be thankful for. Our blessings have been abundant this year, and we are thanking God for each of them.

Right now the biggest blessing on our minds is of course Jordyn. Thinking about how thankful we are for our precious daughter, I was brought back to one year ago at this time. During our infertility treatments, there are 3 months that stand out to me as "horrible months". Don't get me wrong, every month during infertility is horrible, but I remember July, November, and December being the worst for me to deal with. Each of those months I had good numbers, good test results, but none of them ever resulted with a positive pregnancy test. Those three months were so hard because after getting great results from the doctor, I would get my hopes up, only to find out I wasn't pregnant. And while we couldn't understand God's plan for us at that time, we are so thankful for our most precious and perfect gift that we received 4 weeks ago. She has brought so much joy into our lives.

We have a busy few days ahead of us, but we are looking forward to spending time with our families. My sisters and Justin's brother will all be home - and they haven't seen Jordyn since she was born. We can't wait for them to see her again!

We hope that you have a HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

Labor & Delivery

Some of you have asked about my labor/delivery since I was induced, and rather than responding to everyone individually, I thought I would share with everyone. I will tell you that I was very nervous about being induced. I have heard/read so many horrible stories about women being induced ... I guess I had no idea what to expect. My experience, however, was not one of those horrible stories! We arrived at the hospital early on the 30th - I was supposed to be induced at 7 AM. The doctor and nurse had a hard time working with the pharmacy to get my pill to induce me, so the whole process didn't actually start until 9. When I got to the hospital I was dilated to a 3, which was great news. If you're not dilated when they induce, it can create for a difficult labor! At 9:00 I was finally given the pill and the doctor broke my water. By 1:00 I was dilated to a 4, and things went quickly after that. By 3:30-4:00 I was dilated to a 7, and I was in quite a bit of pain ... so I got an epidural. I didn't really want an epidural - not because I wanted to do everything naturally, but because I HATE needles, and I was concerned about how painful the epidural would be. (epidural vs. contractions ... no brainer looking back!) I was also concerned because Justin had one for one of his knee surgeries, and he ended up with horrible spinal headaches for days. I didn't want that to happen. However, after some painful contractions, I decided to go ahead and do it. What a life saver that was! After it was administered to me, it took about 20 minutes, and there was no pain ... not even any pressure like they told me there would be. Because I got an epidural, the labor slowed down a little. My dr. was hoping to deliver Jordyn, but she was done working between 5:00 and 6:00, and I was not ready to push yet. I was ready to push at about 7:00, but the on-call doctor ended up doing a c-section and delivering another baby. So ... I had to wait! Looking back, I have kind of laughed at that because we watched Survivor and The Office with my 2 nurses and joked around through the shows! I did end up getting a little nauseous and ended up with a fever, but that was about the worst of it. Finally, at 9:00 I was told I could start pushing. Little did we know that I would still be pushing almost 2 hours later! Baby Jordyn just didn't want to make her appearance too early! The doctor and her team came in at about 10:15. After more pushing, the doctor ended up using the vacuum (which didn't work at first either) ... after a lot of pushing, the vacuum, and a nurse pretty much jumping/laying on top of me for the final 10 pushes, Baby Jordyn arrived! My epidural didn't wear off until about 3:00 the next morning. The nurses couldn't believe it! It usually does not take that long. It is a very weird feeling to not feel anything below your waist. I would try so hard to lift my legs or wiggle my toes, but there was nothing! The nurses ended up lifting/carrying me from bed to a wheel chair and then to my new bed.

Just so everyone knows too ... Justin won the baby pool that we did with our familes! (I think I would have won if I had guessed a girl instead of a boy.) Justin's guesses:
October 30
7 lb. 8 oz.
21 in.
9 hours of labor

Actual information:
October 30
6 lb. 12 oz.
20 inches
9 hours 43 minutes of labor (Justin asked the nurse to tell us when we could say labor started ... active labor started at 1:00 that day)

I think that my dad and Justin's mom were the winners for our family members ...

My dad's guesses ...
November 8
7 lb. 2 oz.
20 1/2 inches
9 hours of labor

Justin's mom's guesses ...
November 3
7lbs 6 oz
20 1/2 inches
13 hours labor

I will update with pictures either later today or tomorrow. We had quite a rough night, so we are exhausted! This was only our 3rd bad night, so I can't complain too much. :) Have a great day!

My First Real Bath and ... My First Trip to the Mall!

We hope that all of you are enjoying your weekend! We woke up to snow this morning, and was Gizmo ever excited! As soon as he saw it, he was begging to go outside. He loves to play in the snow. He loves to run and roll through it. Needless to say, he has been a very wet puppy today! He's very funny to watch!
We gave Jordyn her first "real" bath today. Her cord finally fell off (right before pictures), so we could finally give her more than a sponge bath. Jordyn did great during her bath in her new rain forest tub! She cried only once, and it was just for a few seconds. Her favorite part is having her hair washed. Here are some bath pictures that Justin took during bathtime.

Jordyn's few seconds of crying ... doesn't she look so sad?!

Safe and warm in Daddy's arms! (and making a silly face)

Jordyn also went on her first trip to the mall today! We figured we better introduce her to the mall early since I love to spend so much time there. :) Again, Jordyn did great! She loved her new stroller. She was wide awake the whole time we were there. She loved looking at the lights and all of the colors in the stores. She was so fun to watch!
And now for more Jordyn pictures. :) Can you believe I've taken over 200 pictures of our precious bundle of joy!?
Jordyn was making silly faces for me...
Jordyn looks so grown up in this picture! She looks very long, and again, she's making another silly face.
Have I mentioned yet that I love this sleeper in the next few pictures? :) I actually went and bought it in the next size too. Anyway, Jordyn was wide awake yesterday morning and was liking the camera ... so of course I was willing to take pictures.

Other than a little housework and our trip to the mall, we have spent our day relaxing and watching football. Of course we have to introduce Jordyn to football at an early age! I helped her practice the touchdown signal with her arms today. Now if only I can talk her out of being a Vikings fan .... :)

Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

Picture Day!

Hi Friends! I've been a little slow at updating this lately! We're not at all busy these days. :) Things are continuing to go well! Jordyn is doing great. Her sleeping pattern is back to normal - we really only had 2 bad nights. She still has some reflux problems, but elevating her mattress has been incredibly helpful. Jordyn is continuing to grow very quickly! Everyone says babies grow so fast, but I never thought it would be this fast! She continues to get stronger everyday. She is doing great with holding her head up when she's on her tummy. I am so happy that she loves tummy time. I know that can be a struggle for some babies, but Jordyn likes to be on her tummy!
Tonight we had our first professional pictures taken. Jordyn was awesome during pictures! She was asleep for the first few, but then she woke up for the rest. (I purposely scheduled the pictures for 6:00 because Jordyn is always awake at that time!) She had a few minutes of crying time during pictures, but overall she was wonderful! The pictures will be uploaded to the Internet in about 7-10 days ... but ... they did give us a printed copy of the pictures, so we attempted to take pictures of the pictures. So ... they're not the best quality, but we wanted to share them with you. Once they're online, we'll share the website/password with you.

And here are some pictures that we took at home over the last week. Jordyn is such an alert baby when she's awake. She loves to show off her big eyes!

So big!

Here is Jordyn in her "potato sack" pj's. We love these sleepers that don't have legs ... but they are HUGE on Jordyn. We have to roll the sleeves, and there's about 6-8 inches of extra fabric that hang past her feet. She loves to wear them though - she loves to be able to kick her feet. (Thanks Jamie & family for this sleeper.)

I can't believe how fast the last 3 weeks have gone. Jordyn is officially 3 weeks old today! I'm sad to think that my maternity leave is half over. I have to return to work on December 15 for one week, and then it's Christmas break. I am only allowed 6 weeks of maternity leave, so I will have to work a little before the break.
I guess that's all for now. Jordyn has been a little fussy since we got home from pictures. So ... I better relieve Justin for a little while.

Sleepless in Sioux Falls

As you can tell from the title of today's blog, our nights of getting sleep are slowly fading away. Jordyn has had a few rough nights (thankfully last night was better). We thought she was coming down with a cold because she has been really stuffed up, coughing, and gagging. After 2 nights of no sleep (I literally held her the entire night on Thursday), we took her to the doctor yesterday morning. Everything looked okay to the doctor and her blood work came back fine. The doctor feels that Jordyn has a reflux problem, and it's causing her to gag when we put her to bed at night. Last night we elevated her mattress, and things were so much better! It was still a struggle to get her to sleep last night - she cried and was uncomfortable for about an hour and a half, but once she finally fell asleep at midnight, she slept until 3:30, and then again until 7:15. Hopefully we're heading back in the right direction with her sleeping pattern! I don't know how many sleepless nights we can handle. :) We were fortunate to have Justin's mom here for a couple of hours yesterday so that I could sleep! Then my parents came for a while, and I was able to get a few things done around the house and take Gizmo for a walk. (He seems to be feeling a little neglected - imagine that!) It's so nice having family so close to us! Thanks so much to Mom & Dad VB and Mom O for your help yesterday! It was much appreciated!
Jordyn amazes us everyday. She is so much fun to watch. We love watching her facial expressions, especially when she notices something new. She loves to watch the ceiling fan and for some reason she also loves our big clock on the wall. I have tried so hard to capture some of these facial expressions on the camera, but as soon as I get the camera out, she stops making faces.
Jordyn still loves to lay on the floor and kick. We got her play yard out (thanks Nichole, Janeen, and Ellen). She tries to hit the ball sometimes, but she also just loves to be underneath the toys. (There are pictures below.) She also loves to be on her tummy! She's working really hard at raising herself up on her elbows. She's very good about lifting her head as well ... she's a strong little girl!
It's hard to believe that 2 weeks ago today we brought Jordyn home from the hospital! We truly enjoy every moment with her (even during those sleepless nights). Being parents is incredible!
And now for some pictures ... the first one is of Jordyn holding my fingers. She loves to do this!

Trying to capture some of her facial expressions, but it wasn't easy ...

Big yawn!

Trying to capture a smile ... (while she tries to suck on her thumb)

This is one of my favorite sleepers that Jordyn has. I love the feet on it!

Snuggle time with Mom and Gizmo!

This sleeper was from our friend, Stacey (and her family). We knew it was going to be a little big on Jordyn, but we wanted to her wear it anyway ... we thought it was pretty funny when Jordyn starting flapping her arms around since the sleeves were too long.

Jordyn's play yard from Nichole, Janeen, and Ellen.

And last but not least, a close up of Gizmo!

We hope that you are all having a wonderful weekend!

I'm Growing!

Another cute picture of Jordyn. :)

Jordyn continues to be a very happy baby! She has been sleeping and eating very well! Today we had another appointment to have Jordyn weighed ... she is growing fast! Last Monday she weighed 6 pounds 8 ounces (4 ounces below birth weight). Today she weighed 7 pounds 3 ounces! They said she is a very healthy baby! She definitely likes to eat! I was happy to hear that she had gained weight! We are definitely starting to see her putting a little baby fat on her body. She needed it - she didn't have any. Her face, arms, and fingers are starting to fill out.
Here are just a few pictures that we took of Jordyn this weekend...

Gizmo likes to sit by Jordyn. He is starting to figure out that he has to compete for attention now. Today he found her pacifier and came down the steps with it in his mouth. I happened to be feeding Jordyn at that time ... if I hadn't been, I sure would have taken a picture of him because it was very funny!

Jordyn loves to lay on the floor and kick her legs.
Asleep in Daddy's arms.

So cute!
On Saturday we had some Owatonna friends stop by! Shelly and Riley Birk were in Sioux Falls and stopped by to see us. Shelly and I got to know each other through all of the Lia Sophia parties that I went to (Shelly sells Lia Sophia), and Riley goes to school at McKinley and is a 4th grader this year. She is so lucky to have Mrs. Engel as her teacher this year. :) Mrs. Engel said that Riley's homework this weekend was to get Jordyn and bring her back to Owatonna to stay with her "Auntie Nichole" ... sorry, Riley was unable to complete her homework!
Riley & Jordyn. (I forgot to get a picture of Shelly & Jordyn ... so sorry!)
On Sunday we went to Rock Rapids to Justin's parents' house. Jordyn did great in the car! She doesn't make a sound when she's in the car! We had lunch and watched the Vikings game. Justin's grandparents came over as well. We had a very nice afternoon at their house!
Great Grandma Helen & Great Grandpa Tunis met Jordyn.
4 Generations ... Grandpa Marlin, Justin, Jordyn, Great Grandpa Tunis.

My Aunt Sharon and cousins came to visit for a little while today.

Jordyn is just waking up, so it's time to play with her! :)
